First IZA / WB / NJD Conference on Jobs & Development

Following the success of the 2016 #Jobs4Dev Conference in Washington D.C.,  IZA – Institute of Labor Economics with the World Bank Jobs Group and the Network on Jobs and Development,  will be hosting a 2-day conference at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia.

The aim of the conference is to present and discuss the latest policy-relevant research to foster the creation of multi-sector, multi-disciplinary solutions to jobs challenges around the world based on research and empirical evidence. In addition to the regular sessions in all fields of labor economics and development, special sessions on Development Processes, Jobs and Labor Market Outcomes will be featured. In particular, we are interested in papers on:

  • Economic growth and changing labor market outcomes

  • The relationship between technological progress and technology adoption, and job creation and wage inequality

  • Productivity growth, structural change, and the role of manufacturing and services in development process

  • Educational expansion, utilization of skills and wage premia

  • Demographic change, youth employment, prolonging working lives

  • Job quality, informality and labor market segmentation

  • Occupational and geographical mobility of labor

  • Energy transitions, job creation and demand for skills

SUBMISSION

Submissions should be sent by January 15, 2018 using the online application form. Any queries can be be emailed to Dominik Spitza.

The organisers will provide accommodation for up to 3 nights and meals during the conference. The participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the venue.

The Network on Jobs and Development is a partnership of a group of five research institutes from various regions of the world:

  1. Development Policy Research Unit at University of Cape Town (DPRU,South Africa),
  2. HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies (HKUST IEMS, Hong Kong),
  3. Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER, India),
  4. Institute for Structural Research (IBS, Poland) and
  5. Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA).
