New DPRU Research Fellow: Dr Alistair Ruiters

1 Mar 2018 - 12:30

In March 2018, we welcome Dr Alistair Ruiters as a new DPRU Research Fellow. Former Director General of the DTI and Commissioner of the Competition Commission, Alistair has gone on to occupy numerous senior positions in the private sector. This affiliation will be an undoubtedly valuable asset to the DPRU's research programme, and we very much look forward to a mutually rewarding and collaborative partnership.

Alistair Ruiters served as a public servant in the South African Democratic Government between 1994 and 2005. During his tenure, he held numerous senior positions, including Commissioner of the Competition Commission, Director General of the Department of Trade and Industry, and Chairman of the National Empowerment Fund. After leaving the public sector, Dr. Ruiters started his own company.  As a mining executive, he has served on numerous Boards, and was the Afarak Group’s Chief Executive Officer in 2015 and 2016. He is currently CEO of Lilly’s Footsteps, a privately owned investment company, that seeks to balance its entrepreneurial activities with its social actions in communities in and around Cape Town.
