The seventh factsheet in the series provides an overview of the youth labour market in South Africa between 2008Q1 and 2012Q1. The factsheet shows that young people have borne the brunt of the labour market impact of the recession and that they face considerably higher unemployment rates than their older counterparts. Employed youth lag older workers in terms of various employment characteristics, including contract types, access to various benefits and hours of work, although there have been important improvements over the period in this respect.
